Of Dreams Unfinished

Does anyone else out there have the problem where they never get to actually FINISH anything that is happens to them in their dreams?

I’ve spoken before about how I NO LONGER HAVE NIGHTMARES, but this is different.

No matter WHAT I’m dreaming about, I NEVER, EVER, EVER get to see the dreams’ original intention realized. I honestly don’t think I can ever remember ‘finishing’ a dream.

Last night was a perfect example:

I was having a dream where an old girlfriend had come over to visit me. We were sitting on the couch and we started to make out.

Then, the dream steers away from the obvious conclusion from where it was going. She proceeds to tell me that she visited me because there is something she desperately needs to tell me.

I keep trying to get her to go back to the sexing, but she refuses to do so until she tells me what she has to say. So, she starts going in to this long story (which I’m honestly having trouble remembering now…I forget a lot about my dreams after I wake up), but I do remember that it was a GOOD story and I wanted to hear the end of it.

Then, suddenly, some friends of mine show up, wanting to watch a movie with me. I keep trying to get them to leave, SO she can finish her story, SO I can have some sexytime, but they won’t take “no” for an answer.

We all sat down to watch the movie. I remember thinking the movie was awesome, but halfway through it, the phone rang and I had to pause the DVD to answer it.

I don’t remember who was on the phone, but I DO remember just trying to get them to tell me whatever they had to tell me, SO I could go back to finishing the movie, SO I could get this chick to finish her story, SO I could have her molest my bathing-suit area.

Seeing a pattern here?

It’s even WORSE when it comes to sex dreams (which I guess this one ‘kinda’ was). I just can NEVER seal the deal. I always hear stories of people who have these wild sex dreams, and it just doesn’t happen to me. I have a lot of “beginning sex” dreams, but just as its getting good, the girl will tell me to ‘run to the kitchen and get me a drink first’. No sooner do I get to the kitchen, when a tiger will break into the house and first I have to get rid of it, before I get the drink, before I can find the girl.

You get the idea. Same pattern again.

And it happens EVERY TIME I dream. It’s really quite maddening to not being able to see ANY kind of dream to fruition.

I’m sure it tells something quite revealing about my psyche that I am unable to complete anything in any of my dreams, but I just can’t analyze myself to figure out what the Hell it is.

I’m sure that little minx Mrs Hall will have something to say on this, but what say the rest of you? What the Hell is up with me?

I always have dreams where there is a crisis and I either can't get to the door fast enough to lock it or I'm dialing 911 on my cell phone but fat finger the numbers and can never get it right. But then just as shit is about to hit the fan I wake up with a huge gulp of air.

Hell, I never dream AT ALL, unless it's a sex dream. I'm not complaining though.

I have no idea what that means, but that dream last night must have been quite frustrating. Unfinished movie, unfinished story and worst of all unfinished hot monkey sex.

Maybe you were a Persian King (or Princess) in a previous life, a la 1001 Arabian Nights?

Now you did it. Now I'm gonna have uncensored dreams again tonight. And I always wake up at the good part...I'm just so deprived *sniff*

I've had a couple of dreams {not sex dreams} where something really important is about to happen and just like that I'll wake up. I always try to go back to sleep but I just can never get back to that point. Hate when that happens because I always think it's some sort of important message I'm suppose to know.

I think the dreams where you're getting down to business, the girl wants some water, you fight the tiger etc... The tiger is clearly your premature ejaculation problem that you're fighting before either of you can find happiness or satisfaction.

I hope that was some help.

My dreams are so all over the place. I even wake up sometimes wondering if my dreams are my real life, and my real life is my dream.

But yea, I do finish things, unless;

1) I'm trying to get somewhere. I NEVER get to where I'm trying to go
2) Tornadoes. There can be 15 of them around me and they never hit. I always wake up first.
3) Someone is after. I guess it's a good thing they never get me, huh?
4) If I'm having hot sex, and I love the guy in my dream, I can never see his face and we never finish.

I don't know, but let me know when you figure it out. I never find out how my dreams end either. It was really frustrating the time I had the hot sex dream about Ted Nugent (wtf... I have no idea. I am NOT attracted to Ted Nugent, but in my dream, I was.) Two nights ago I dreamed that I had grown extra toes on each foot. One foot had six and the other had seven. I had no idea when it had happened or why. I was freaked out and never got to know why I grew extra toes.

I beg to differ. These are nightmares. Nightmares don't alway involve horror, they revolve around frustration and stress. You evidently have a 'fear' of not being able to complete or finish things. Your horror are the poeople that stand in your way of accomplishing things. Something I am well acquanted with in real life. As for my dreams, they are never concluded, and are always open ended. I don't think dreams can have a conclusion...what are you expecting....credits to roll in your head and a 'The End' symbol to let you know when to wake up?

bruce: Very interesting theory on these dreams being my version of a nightmare. very interesting.

what i mean by 'finishing' is, i'd like the main story of one of my dreams to come to fruition (get the girl, watch the movie, etc). it never does.

and yes, credits would sure be nice

I'm guessing these dreams are mirroring your life a little? Goals you want to accomplish, but are unable to for different reasons.

None of the interruptions (except the tiger) seem to be harmful. Friends coming over to visit. Movies interrupted my phone calls. Sex interrupted by bartending. Etc, etc.

Hahaha, this happens to me all the time. I never finish anything in a dream.

I've never actually had sex in a dream before. I've come close once, but that was it.

I have nightmares a lot and most of my dreams are not happy, unfortunately. Life is better when I am awake.

I think you love your wife so much that even in dreams you can't cheat on her.

The only dreams I really ever seem to remember are nightmares....it sucks. I am ready for some dreams about tropical beaches and cabana boys.

I never get to finish the sex dreams. Never. It is indeed quite maddening!

Sounds like a case of art imitating life. Just sayin'

Life is a series of interruptions. There is no final accomplishment, only a series of small tasks. Relish the interruptions. They are your life, the accomplishments that you should treasure. What you seek as an ultimate goal or destination is an unattainable illusion distracting you from what is real: this moment.

Damn, Slyde. You're deep.

I get to finish the crappy dreams. Just never the good ones. It's the same as how I can fall asleep again after a nightmare and go straight back into it, but if I wake up during a happy dream, it's game over.

But sorry, I have no idea why you don't get to finish dreams.

Candy's daily Dandy said...

this pattern is obviously about your fear of "not finishing"

take that and run with it.

Once I had a sex dream about George Costanza (Jason Alexander) of Seinfeld. While he completely repulses me, the sex was not half bad.

Dreams can be some sick shit, eh?

Yikes, sorry about your dreams Slyde but dude that dream seemed interesting with so many things happening!!! SEAL THE DEAL!!!

I never finish sex dreams. Don't even have time to fake it before waking up. Grrr.

Try a few lucid dreaming exercises for the several weeks. A multitude of instructions are to be foun don the net.

In the meantime, make a choice and stick with it.

It is much more likely, that you are too easily distracting yourself and these dreams become the result.
