Skinny Parakeets

I need more help with some dream analysis, please.

About a year ago (before I had moved over to blogger), I had posted my most recurring dream that I have had since I was a kid, and bless your little hearts, you guys gave me some very insightful ideas on what the dream meant.

And maybe we slayed that particular dragon, since I haven’t had that dream since.

Well, here comes the runner-up.

While I have been having this dream, or some weird variation of it, for decades now, this one doesn’t interrupt my beauty sleep with the frequency of the driving-backwards dream.

I still have it often enough, though, and it always leaves me feeling disturbed.

The basics are this: In my dream, I am sitting around, when I realize with a start that I have a pet that up until that point, I have COMPLETELY forgotten about! Most times it’s a pet bird, but in some variations of this dream it has been anything from a dog, to a hamster, to a pet snake.

Whatever the animal is, I race around the house trying to remember where I put the animal, because I realize that I haven’t fed it in months!

In last night’s dream, after much frantic searching, I finally come across my missing pet (this time a parakeet). Even though I haven’t apparently fed him anything in months, he is still alive, but only barely. The animal always looks skeletal, and on the verge of its final collapse. I try to finally give it some food, but it will never eat anything I lay out for it. It just looks at me accusingly, and wheezes some kind of sickly death-rattle.

The animal never actually dies in my dream, but it’s always plainly apparent that it is going to die any minute. I kick myself for being so damn irresponsible……

…. And then I wake up.

In my dreams over the years, I’ve killed just about every species known to man.

If I had to guess, I would say that this dream represents my fear of responsibility in some fashion, or my failure to believe in my self, or fear of accountability, or some shit like that.

But, with the exception of Earl, you guys are all much smarter than me. I clearly have the looks, but very little in the way of brains, so I need you guys to help me out here.

As an animal lover, this dream always really bothers me.

p.s. Yes, I know that the banner picture of Posh Spice has nothing to do with this story, but when I typed “skinny parakeet” into Google, this was the first picture that came up, and I find THAT to be pretty fucking funny.

That is funny that picture came up when you googled skinny parakeet. That sounds gross "skinny parakeet" like its a sickness, and well I think Spice looks gross that skinny too.

Here is what I ran up on the dream dictionary:

" To see your or someone else's pet in your dream, represents civilized instincts. You are keeping your temper in line. Alternatively, it indicates a need for love and acceptance. You are lacking attention from others and are feeling neglected. The pet may also be a pun for "petting" as in some sexual behavior.

To dream of a dead pet, suggests that something that you had thought was left in the past is coming back to haunt you. Similarly to seeing your childhood home, a past pet serves the same function as trying to bring you back into that particular time period. A situation in your current life may parallel a situation in your past and the dream is providing a means of resolving it. "

I would say it's probably a combination of the two themes - maybe something currently reminds you of something that happened in the past that was never resolved, and it could be something that makes you think you're neglecting a certain person or event, and you're worried you may not handle it the way you think it should be handled.

Well its only my opinion...but I think its would be really unwise for anyone to rely on you to take care of them...well unless they wanted to go on some kind of crash diet then you would be the man!!!!! hehe oh and it is funny to type image searches in google just to see some of the crap that shows up...sometimes Im left thinking what the hell does that have to do with anything!?!

but on a serious level....I dont know you but your dreams would seem to indicate that you have some kind of issue with being responsible....the fact that you do think about the poor animal before it actually dies says that maybe you WANT to be more responsible...but you just arent there yet.....maybe you dont feel that you have a real reason to be....like I said I dont know you so Im only just guessing....cuz honestly I love getting into peoples heads to see what makes them tick!!!

I am, like, the Queen of dream analysis, so here it goes:
You know how little kids always gravitate towards animals? Sometimes, when we get older, we lose that. Well, your animal dream may be telling you that there was something in your younger years that gave you joy; an idea, a passion, a dream. It's telling you to think back to what really made you happy as a kid, and draw on that for your happiness as an adult. In your dream you are desperately looking for that, and always find it too late to "feed" it.
So, find a quiet space where you can reflect. Looking through some old photos of your childhood before you do this might help trigger something.
Personally, I think this dream says a lot about who you are and who you want to be. love, love, love. xo d

Hmm, I'm thinking the responsibility thing might be on the right track.
You're sure you didn't have a pet when you were younger that you neglected? Or maybe some love-child you fathered when you were 15 that maybe you aren't entirely sure is yours?
I had goldfish when I was little that I quit feeding to "see what would happen" - I distincly remember making the decision not to feed them, but I also remember not thinking they would die.
Then again, I don't still dream about them...

And yeah, I'd do Posh, if she gained about 20 pounds.

It clearly means that you are a raging homosexual.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

The skinny/dying bird represents your gayness that is dying because you haven't fed it enough cock. The animal never dies in your dreams because your urge for man-meat also never dies.

My advice to you is fly, pretty little bird...fly!!!

teeni: i need more help than that!

callie: thats an interesting take. i dont know if im buying that, but i need to think on it.

thoughts: yeah, thats kind of where im going with it too.

diane: again, very interesting. There may in fact be something deep in my ID that im just not concious about. I certainly still harken back alot of my habits and interests to my teenage years.

ali: you are a sick, sick woman! you killed your fishy!

earl: i guess i can officially count your reply as "Earl's 1,000th attempt to get me to be gay". Congrats, and keep trying....

Slyde, I think you need to feed the animal in you. Release your animal instinct...

Ravish your lover with animal passion.
Order and devour your favourite food.
Let go and do what you want!
Damn it I'll do the same!

xx

I'm really no good at dream interpretation, but I did enjoy reading the other comments on it!

mo.stoneskin said...

As I read that post the entire time in my head I was going "yeah but what about Posh Spice?" Damn that is funny.

I can happily interpret your dream for you - I have a gift. Somewhere in your home is skeletal animal, a pet you don't know about, it is slowly dying but somehow surviving by eating, I dunno, bits of belly fluff or something. You need to find the animal before it dies...

Bruce said...

I am so glad I have normal dreams, like banging Sophia Loren in her prime or driveing a Ferrari....not analysis needed for those!!! As for your Parkeet Death-Wish dream, I agree that it must have something to do with neglect, or basically just fear of forgetting, possibly alzhiemers? The fact that it never dies indicates that it is something you know you are supposed to be doing, but by putting it off you are causing pain to someone else. Weird.

Jennifer and Sandi said...

"They" have a dream dictionary? I swear....the internet.

You misplace the pets because your busy. You find them, feed them and if you ever continued on with your dream you would realize they survive and now you have a shit ton of pets running around your house and you don't know it!

Happy Thursday!
- Jennifer

What Earl said, x2.

elise: i like the way you think!

eviltwin: i could have done without earl's (as usual)

mo: bellyfluff? ewwwwwww

bruce: you are a lucky duck. i'd gladly dream about banging sofia loren over killing a parakeet anyday.

jennifer: i dont think thats it :)

badger: you comment here once a year and THATS what i get? shame on you!

Mrs. Holly Hall said...

well, of course I know what this is about. but, no time right now, will email you.

but basically, it is about anxiety.

now, the question is, what are you gonna do about it?

options will be included in email.

:)

What alarms me more than your crazy dream is the fact that I've had it MYSELF.
It's usually when I have a crapton of stuff going on at once,; me trying to juggle too many projects.
Finish something!

I was going to write something so insightful, so incredibly brilliant, so cutting edge that you would have wept tears of joy at the emotional breakthrough my words would have led you towards. Then, I read Earl's comment and laughed so hard I peed myself. Having to change one's underwear tends to cause one to forget anything brilliant one might have said prior to that.

Slyde said...

mrs hall: of course you do! i'll look forward to it.

sybil: really? ive never heard of anyone else with this dream.

faiqa: you have GOT to stop humoring Earl. He just gets worse... like herpes..

terri said...

I have no idea what it means. I think the other comments are on the right track though.

Damn, I rarely dream. And when I do, I can't even remember what it was about, only that I did have a dream. I wonder what that means.

Slyde said...

Terri: ive been doing alot of research on this, and im PRETTY sure that it means you want me.

Michelle said...

Hello....sounds to me like you have been neglecting something inside yourself and it's telling you so.

Bit of a soul search required there.

Thanks for popping by my place and thanks for the comment :)

Nice to meet you....

Heff said...

I thought your most recurring dream involved Earl and Cool Whip.

But seriously, folks...

I've had a similar dream about not feeding a pet rabbit I had back from childhood. I run out to feed it, and it's basically a pile of carpet in its pen at this point. Funny AND Sad !!

Weird dream...I have no idea what it means......very odd....

Ps - I think Posh Spice is too skinny....try feed her ;)

Candy's daily Dandy said...

Oh Slyde, I too have had the same dream.

WTF does it mean. It is awful because the guilt is most disheartening.

As for Earl's comment, I guess I need to get some, Huh?

Kate said...

Yep, I keep forgetting to feed my childhood pony in mine. I've always said it was anxiety, but I really like what Diane wrote, makes the most sense to me.

That, and what Earl said. :)

(Should we get t-shirts printed up? "Feed The Skinny Parrot?" With a photo of Poshie up there? And your blog address under that? Just saying...)

Slyde said...

michele: nice to meet you too! thx for stopping by.

heff: earl and cool whip? maybe Fluff, but not cool whip..

brazen: she definitely could use some meat on her..

candy: maybe we could help each other out with that... :)

kate: t-shirts? i love it!

Kye said...

Your own dream analysis seems pretty dead-on. Only other thing I can think of is maybe there is someone in your life (other than yourself) that you're neglecting?

& as for posh spice.... that is fucking hillarious. bravo on that. :)

I'll be following you.

Slyde said...

kye: thanks for that! (and for the follow!) :)

James said...

Hi Slyde,
yeah I thing you have it pegged it is the responsibility thing.
about once a month I have a similar dream involving losing one or other of the children through negligence.
In my dream the sense of loss and guilt is terrible, heart rending.

How can you fancy Posh Spice? She is a talentless stick insect. The only sexy one was Scary Spice. Till she opens her gob and you hear her voice, anyway.

Dream of Opposites...

You have dreamed about a bird, typically a symbol of the soaring spirit, free flight, freedom, etc;

However, you have selected a parakeet. This is a bird normally kept caged.

1) Maybe you're feeling caged?

2) Perhaps, you feel ingenuine about your desires?

3) Could it be that you are feeling wounded and hoping for protection while you sort this out?

4) Perhpas what you are doing no longer seems nourishing to your mind, body or soul?

All humans avoid pain. Is there something you're no accepting these days?

Best regards and good luck.

Posh + skinny parakeet.. that's hysterical.
As for your dream.. I'm sure some clever bugger has already sorted it out for you... so I'm not even gunna try! AS if I could even.

Slyde said...

james: see, Scary and Sporty never did anything for me.

anon: that was awesome... i wish you had not been anonomous so i could have thanked you by name..

chrish: yes, ive gotten so good insight from all you blokes..
