With 1000 You Get EggRoll

Well, it didn't make the front page of the New York Times.

It also didn't make it's way to be the lead story of World News Tonight. It wasn't the hot topic around the water cooler at offices around the country, for that matter. Actually, except for myself, Earl, and a loyal handful of others, what SHOULD have been a world-shattering event went virtually unnoticed by the community at large....

Slydesblog has surpassed the 1,000th visitor mark.

That's right. If you blinked, you may have missed it, but my humble little blog was visited by it's 1,000th web surfer sometime Thursday afternoon.

Now by current Internet standards, a web site having only 1000 visitors within 6 months doesn't exactly mark it as the next GOOGLE, but then again, this site never aspired to BE another GOOGLE.

When I first started this site, the only objective I had for SLYDESBLOG was to have an accessible place where my family could get recent photos of the family. As time went on, I took the site a step further, and decided to try to begin to emulate some of the better blogs out there in cyberspace that I looked forward to reading myself. I can remember countless times while reading someone's site and thinking, "Hey, I can do this! And I can do it BETTER! I have something to SAY, dammit!".

The problem is, I don't. Not really. Sure, I can mash together an article or two a month, when something tickles my fancy or sticks in my craw (and bless Earl's little heart with his great contributions, which help LOADS), but it wasn't until I actually started trying to maintain my own blogsite that I truly began to appreciate the REAL bloggers out there who must sacrifice a whole hell of a lot to post 2, 3, sometimes more, stories a day.

Once I had the notion to turn this into a blogsite, I envisioned a future where I could somehow parlay this site into some kind of scheme that would actually net me an income, allowing me to walk into my job one day like Ron Livingston in Office Space and act as nutty as I wanted until they fired me.

Once again, nice idea, but I'm still having the small issue of, you know, actually coming up with an idea that ANYONE would want to pay for. So I guess until I can figure out what 2 things I can glue together that NO ONE has ever thought to glue together before, and market it, SLYDESBLOG is destined to stay a humble little blog site.

And you know what? That's OK with me too.....

Anyway, the good news is that every month, SLYDESBLOG is getting more and more visitors, so I guess we're doing SOMETHING right. Web viewership has increased markedly every month since September. It will be an interesting statistic to see how soon we can hit the 2,000 mark. Hopefully you will all still be here with me to celebrate when we do.

Anyway, thanks for all the support, the posts, the emails, and all the kind words. It has NOT gone unnoticed or unappreciated.
